Did you know that many churches consider it part of their outreach ministry to have their playgrounds be accessible to the public? You might have thought that Wilson is lacking on public playgrounds, but with this fun fact, it opens up a whole lot more places to explore with your kids. And with Wilson being a good ole small Southern city, we have a lot of Jesus, hence churches , hence playgrounds to explore. And with everyone wanting to attract the families to their services, the playgrounds are truly exceptional.

Take Farmington Heights Church for example. Located off Raleigh Road Parkway, sorta near the Walmart Supercenter area, the church serves over 700 people total across their 3 Sunday services. That's a lot of Wilsonians praying to the Good Lord every week! So suffice it to say, its a nice church with nice facilities. Like their playground.

Mamas, I love this playground for my kids. Its amazing. I think what makes it rock is that the church has an active Mother's Morning Out half-day nursery and preschool that meets during the September through May school year. This is a highly sought after nursery program, which has registration opening at the beginning of the year and can see long waitlists to get into. So the thought behind the layout and design of the playground was by highly sought after early childhood educators who are actively using the facilities for their classes everyday. Suffice it to say, its nice!

The playground is easily viewable from Raleigh Road, and is sandwiched between the main church building and the Surge Campus, where the Latino congregation worships. No getting lost looking for this baby! Its multi-colored climbing structures and slides, and bright red swing set, will make it easy to spot.

The playground has numerous parking spots next to it for you to choose from. I like to pull up right up in front because I hate any form of crossing the road with two young kids. The parking lot, and honestly the whole church campus is immaculate and well-kept. You can tell the congregation takes great pride in maintaining the beauty of their campus.

A nice detail to note is the playground is completely fenced in. Tall pine trees line the perimeter of the fence, crafting partial shade over the playground. Which here is the hot, humid South is a godsend! Coupled with the numerous benches and picnics tables, you'll be able to sit down and stay shaded while your kids run rampant. Well unless you have a daredevil climber kid (my son). There is one bench that the kids could use to climb over the fence, if they felt so inclined. Ask me how I know this. But that takes a certain type of kid, so it won't be on the radar for most of you mamas.

The whole playground itself is designed for ages 2-5. Your kids will have the option between two climbing structures. The smaller one is best for crawling-2 years old, and the 3-5 years old will love the larger climbing structure with the 3 large slides and climbing pole. The playground also has a bright blue and red climbing dome, which even my 2 year old could scale! A little merry-go-round, and swings sized for toddlers makes this a winner for all of you toddler parents. Oh, did I mention, the whole playground is covered in soft mulch so your kids will have a soft landing zone, if you worry about falls.

My kids can spend a good 1.5-2 hours at this playground. Since its a church playground, its a lot quieter of a place to play. You won't see any big crowds here. If the kids start looking for a change of scenery, I'll load them in the stroller and take a walk through the parking lot around the church campus. You can do a whole paved loop around the church with minimal to no traffic of any kind. I just love a place where I can fit in a walk of some kind with the kids. This mama needs exercise too and it ain't about to be climbing up playground structures. Leave that kind of work to the Dads.
